Leonid Gopanchuk He was born on the 29th of March, 1955 in the Zabolotyntsi village in Rivnenskij region (former territory of ancient Volhynia). Exactly there, his paintings, which he began creating at the age of 12, still take their honorable place in the houses of his home-folks. They have been given as presents for weddings and have been considered original family amulets.

In 1981, he graduated Kyiv State Art Institute (now Ukrainian Academy of Arts). A circle of his creative and life’s interests has a very wide range. That is why the paintings of Leonid Gopanchuk do not leave anybody indifferent. His main criterion is sincerity and professionalism, which nowadays has become a rarity.

It is hard to define the main direction of his work. He is considered to be one of the best portraitists in Europe, and this became especially evident on the 5th International ART Festival that was held in Kyiv, in 2000. Leonid Gopanchuk is one of the 100 artists that are included into the “XX century Ukrainian Art” catalog and presentation CD of the same name that represent Ukraine and its achievements in various spheres of art in the XX century.

Professor Dmytro Stepovyk has represented Leonid Gopanchuk and his works in the encyclopedia ECU (Encyclopedia of Contemporary Ukraine). Moreover, Leonid is an expert in creating landscapes, magnificent still-life and religious paintings, icons.

Being a person who deeply cares for and oversensitively percieves what is happening nowadays in the country and in art, he is a curator of various exhibitions and projects. In the present time, he is organizing literary-art projects that have tremendous enlightening significance. Leonid Gopanchuk devotes a great deal of his time to public work.

He is a member of the National Advisory Council, a member of International Association “Afghans of Chernobyl”, and an honorable member of the Assistance Fund for the Development of Arts, a member of adjudicators of International Child Festival “World of Talents”. He also received a gratitude from Kyiv mayor for the personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian publishing-house and popularization of Ukrainian word. He is noted for a sincere benevolence against his coworkers. That is why he is a frequent participant of radio- and television-shows, in which he gives his appraisal concerning various events in contemporary art.

His works take their place in private collections of more than 14 countries.

1996 – a personal display within the bounds of the 1st International ART-Festival. Ukrainian House, Kyiv. “Oranta” Composer House, Kyiv. A participant in the exhibition “Ball of Flowers”. Kyiv Child Academy of Arts.

1997 – “Trinity”, 2nd International ART-Festival, gallery “Gryphon”, Kyiv. “Easter”, Church of Mykola Naberegnyj, Kyiv.

1998 – a personal display, representative office of UN, Kyiv. 3rd International ART-Festival. Ukrainian House, Kyiv. “XX century Ukrainian Art” – a participant of the catalog, co-curator of the project “Cathedral”.

1999 – 5th International ART-Festival. A participant and curator of the exhibition “Cathedral” within the bounds of the “XX century Ukrainian Art” project. Ukrainian House, Kyiv. Exhibition in Seoul. A personal gratitude of the ambassador of Ukraine in Southern Korea. A personal display “Melody of the Sun”, Kyiv Child Academy of Arts.

2001 – a participant in the exhibition and catalog “10 years of Independence”, Kyiv, municipal gallery “Lavra”. A participant in the project of International Association “Afghans of Chernobyl” – “A Portrait of a Contamporary”

2003 – series of portraits “Great Ball ‘Dnipro’”. Presentation of the portrait of V. Evdokimov in the Mariinskyj Palace. .

2004 – a curator of the plener-project “North Princess”, Turkey. A participant in the exhibition “Ukraine from Tripoli to Present Time in the Images of Contemporary Artists”

2005 – an exhibition of the plener-project “North Princess”. Assistance Fund for the Development of Arts, Kyiv. Literary-art project “History of One Portrait”, devoted to the 80th anniversary of patriarch Vladymir (Romanyuk) (in co-authorship with Candidate of Philological Science Irina Olijnyk, Assistance Fund for the Development of Art, Kyiv)

2006 – Literary-Art project “From the petroglyphs of Stone Tomb to the Cossack karbs” (in co-authorship with Candidate of Philological Science Irina Olijnyk, Assistance Fund for the Development of Art, Kyiv). Literary-Art project “A Meeting of Two Patriarchs” (in co-authorship with Candidate of Philological Science Irina Olijnyk, Exhibition hall of Ternopil Regional Union of Artists, Ternopil).
